FAREWELL 'SWEET MAY' (GARDEN STROLL)

"In my garden there is a large place for sentiment. My garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful."

 ~ Abram L. Urban

Hello Joey:
Absolute perfection! We have so enjoyed this 'stroll' through your garden, enlarging each image along the way, where the overall harmony achieved through carefully co-ordinated colours, contrast of texture and form become so very apparent. And you have such very attractive and unusual plants, cultivated with care and all maintained to the highest possible standard. Lovely.

Joey, you always find such thoughtful quotes to accompany your posts--the Urban quote is wonderful. Beautiful poppies, perfect for Memorial Day!

How kind, Jane and Lance, buy can't take full credit since Mr. Ho-Hum is a huge help ... edging, mulching, lawn ...!

Thanks Rose. Sounds like you all had a fabulous time at the Asheville Fling!

It is a wonderful stroll. I could stay awhile.

I do not like you calling yourself a ho-hum housewife. You are anything but ho-hum. Give yourself more credit! xo Jenny

Joey,
Your garden is lovely. I too have many hosta which I love. How to you control the ferns? Several years ago they started to take over. I was able get rid of them, but this spring I have some coming back. While I do like them I don't want them to take over.

You have such a beautiful property but I know it must be a lot of work to keep it so lovely. I can't believe that May is gone with such strange weather, 47 degrees today.

Eileen
Mmmm...May is a magical month in the Midwest, isn't it? Such beautiful images, Joey!

Hi Jenny ... I love being the 'Ho-Hum Housewife' ... long story on how it all began ... sit down with a cup/glass of whatever you love ... it's all here on the blog :)

Thank you, dear Ann. My almost 40 yr old garden is certainly a challenge and why I must spend endless hours tweaking, honing plants back home, digging, dividing, and sharing ... and yes ferns (I have many well-behaved varieties) but Ostrich can be a huge issue. I love them but can be like weeds so be careful where you plant them ... I have shared 100+ with friends/family this past spring!

Thank you, dear Eileen. Yes, this 75 year old house and awesome piece of land holds my heart as does the beauty of our land (sunsets) and bones of 100 year old cottage and awesome setting UP NORTH. I have told my children to buy 'the land' ... structures can always be changed ... the land that holds the heart is priceless!

Thanks Beth ... yes ... so hard to say goodbye to May ... I wait all year for spring, my favorite time of year that like MIdwest plants in the garden, feeds my soul.

Joey, your gardens are just beautiful. I need to take some lessons from you. Do you have a deer issue where you are? I sometimes wake up in the morning and all my new blooms are eaten! I have a spray I use but it doesn't always help.
Your flowers and photos are definitely NOT Ho-Hum!
Fab gardens and those lady slippers are wonderful...I wish i could find some to plant..very protected here.
