Truly exotic.

I don't grow any plants indoors, maybe I should and these could be a candidate, I like the fact you've labelled them under easy care orchids, perfect for me!

I think your friend would turn up it's toes and croak at my place. An admitted killer of plants that live indoors, orchids just plain scare the dickens out of me.

Dear Joey, What a showstopper of a friend! She certainly looks to be a diva of the Orchid world.......does she sing Opera too?!!

Funny you should write about orchids. I was just thinking I should try orchids for inside during the winter.

Very pretty flower! Unlike any I've ever seen before.
Beautiful post as always Joey, the autumn colors on your orchids are fantastic. Have you had them for long? Do they flower again?/ Love Tyra

Many varieties of orchids are easy to grow, Rob, and give great joy. The flowers last for months so even if they never rebloom, they are well worth the money spent.

Don't be afraid, Christine! I don't know about Alaska but here you can find inexpensive orchids in the grocery store. Simply enjoy and like African violets, don't overwater.

Yes, she is a diva, dear Edith and perfect for autumn. Sing, hum, not yet but very vain ~ whispering to me, as I was shooting her lovely face, to capture her best side :)

Go for it, Eileen. This beauty caught my eye at Trader Joes where orchids are very reasonable, also at Costco.

Thanks Angela. I love her many faces.

This is a new friend, Tyra, and very inexpensive (about $15). We will see about reblooming ... I have great luck with Cymbidiums and Phalaenopsis (Moth Orchids). I must always have at least one blooming orchid in the house and like you, sometimes 'fake it' :)

Yo tengo varias Oncidium pero esta no.
Besos
Bananas! I was hoping against hope this was a trout lily, not an orchid. LOVE the colors. But I've accepted I already have way more indoor plants than I want.

They remind me of chocolate. So pretty! I have not had even attempted to grow orchids. Still trying to get my african violet to bloom.

Fabulous orchid Joey! I only have two orchids, but I keep thinking about expanding my collection. But my houseplants are starting to take over, where would I put it? LOL I always think of you when expounding on the virtues of the lovely state of Michigan.
joey said…
Thank you, Tuqui. I've has so many orchids throughout the years but think this might be my first oncidium.

You have a big heart, Monica, and there is always room for one more :) Isn't this glorious day!

Both hate overwatering, Rosey, but don't let that scare you. Neglect is often good and in this case, rewarding!
joey said…
Thanks Robin. I only have 2 orchids in bloom at the moment but many hopeful ones to bring in from outside. So enjoyed your Michigan trip :) Isn't this weather grand!

What a beauty, Joey! I hope you two have a long and happy friendship. I've never tried an oncidium yet--just phals and one paph. They're irresistable.

Once again, stunning photography. There's something alien yet attractive about your friend.

This lovely will be an excellent companion for the cold winter months ahead, Joey. I've never tried growing orchids, but I don't seem to have much luck with houseplants. I'll just enjoy yours:)
joey said…
Totally agree, Gail, toad lilies are exotic and I love them. Mine are still going strong in this mild weather, soon to change. Wishing you some needed rain.

I know you share my passion for orchids, Jodi. I think this is my first oncidium but truthfully can't remember. Also like you, this orphan orchid followed me home from Trader Joes, often a fine spot for finding inexpensive orchids.

Thank you, Andrea. I only have wildflower Lady's Slipper orchids in my garden but several inside as houseplants. I must go back and check yours out.

Hi Kala. A lot going on in these tiny faces. I now see I should have included the whole plant for perspective.

You are so introspective, IG, and totally agree. Thank you :)

Hi Rose. I'm a bit like a squirrel. As the garden wanes, I tend to gather blooming houseplants that sustain me throughout the long winter months, orchids a must :)

Beautiful shots. I love the warm golden colors.

Thanks debsgarden. Orchids are certainly unique!

Welcome, Jennifer, and thank you. The warm autumn colors are exactly what drew me to 'my new friend'.

Exquisite Joey ...just like you!
I wish I'd had this information before I managed to kill off a beautiful orchid I got for my birthday back in April! Oh well :p
Kathryn/plantwhateverbringsyoujoy.com said…
What an extraordinary creature! And you have examined beautifully and artfully from every angle!
Lovely!
joey said…
I know why I love you, Nutty ... let me count the ways :) You are not alone killing orchids ... look at the long line of 'Wanted' posters hanging in the nurseries/garden centers!

Thank you, dear Kathryn. Did I perhaps get a bit carried away shooting this extraordinary creature :)
